Cristo es Dios encarnado. El nos conoce - Christ is God incarnate. He knows us.

El Señor que sabe salvar, cuando vio que se suscitaba esta idea en la mente de sus discípulos como un germen de amargura, antes que tomase incremento, la arrancó de raíz. Cuando brotan las pasiones en nuestro corazón, se arrancan fácilmente, pero cuando crecen es difícil deshacerse de ellas. Por lo cual prosigue: "Mas Jesús, viendo lo que pensaban en su corazón", etc. Sepa que yerra aquel que cree que Jesús es un puro hombre. Aun cuando el Verbo se hizo carne, continuó siendo Dios; pues sólo Dios es quien puede conocer lo que sucede en los corazones y en las entrañas. (San Cirilo de Jerusalén. Catena Aurea. Reflexión: Cristo nos conoce desde nuestro corazón a nuestras entrañas. Corazón que es el ser, centralidad y eje, donde atesoramos la imagen y semejanza con la que fuimos creados. Entrañas, que es la parte visceral, emotiva e irracional que nos caracteriza. Somos transparentes para Dios y esto nos debería hacer amar más a Dios. Dios quiera que sepamos amarle con todo nuestro ser.

But our Lord, Who knew how to save, seeing in the hearts of the disciples the thought that had risen up thereupon as it were a certain root of bitterness, plucks it up by the roots before it received growth. For when passions first begin in us, they are easily subdued; but having gained strength, they are with difficulty eradicated. Hence it follows, And Jesus perceiving the thought of their heart. Let him who thinks Jesus to be mere man, know that he has erred, for the Word, although made flesh, remained God. For it is God alone Who is able to search into the heart and reins. Reflection: Christ knows us from our heart to our guts. Heart that is being, centrality and axis, where we treasure the image and similarity with which we were created. Guts that is the visceral, emotional and irrational part that characterizes us. We are transparent to God and this should make us love God more. God willing that we know how to love him with our whole being.

Lo que sabemos de Dios, ha sido revelado por Él - What we know about God has been revealed by Him.

Entre las cosas sublimes y las maravillas que se pueden decir de Cristo hay una que sobresale de todas las demás y excede absolutamente la capacidad de admiración del hombre y la fragilidad de nuestra inteligencia mortal no es capaz de comprender ni imaginar.  Y es que la omnipotencia de la majestad divina, la Palabra misma del Padre, la misma Sabiduría de Dios, por la que todas las cosas fueron creadas –lo visible y lo invisible se deja contener en los límites de este hombre que se manifestó en Judea. Esta es nuestra fe[...] Realmente, dar a entender estas verdades a los oídos humanos, intentar expresarlas con palabras, excede la capacidad del lenguaje humano... y probablemente el de los ángeles. (Orígenes de Alejandría. Tratado de los Principios, II;6,2 ; PG 11, 210)

Reflexión: Todo lo que sabemos de Dios ha sido revelado por Él. El ser humano debe ser humilde y admirar todo lo revelador por Dios. No intentar ir más allá de esta revelación, porque ir más allá es profana la imagen que Dios ha puesto en nosotros mismos. Intentar imponer nuestras conjeturas a los demás, es traicionar a Dios y maltratar a nuestros hermanos.

Of all Christ's miracles and mighty acts, it is this one that far exceeds the limits of human wonder. It goes far beyond the weak power of the human mind to perceive or comprehend how it is supposed to believe that the divine majesty, that very Word of the Father (Jn 1:1) and Wisdom of God in which "all things were created, visible and invisible", was held within the confines of the man who appeared in Judaea [...] To present this to human ears and explain it in words far surpasses our poor merits... Indeed the explanation of this mystery is probably beyond the grasp even of the whole creation of heavenly powers. ( Origen of Alexandria. Treatise on First Principles, II, 6, 2 ; PG 11, 210)

Reflection: Everything we know about God has been revealed by Him. The human being must be humble and admire everything revealed by God. Do not try to go beyond this revelation, because to go beyond it is profane the image that God has placed in ourselves. To try to impose our conjectures on others is to betray God and mistreat our brothers.

Todo tiene su momento - Everything has its moment

Nuestro Señor Jesucristo no quiso ser predicado para que no se produjese algún alboroto. Por lo que sigue: "Mas El, reprendiéndolos, les mandó que no dijesen esto a nadie". Por muchas razones mandó callar a sus discípulos: para engañar al príncipe del mundo, declinar la jactancia y enseñar la humildad. Luego Cristo no quiso ser glorificado. Y tú, que has nacido innoble, ¿quieres gloriarte? Además, no quería que sus discípulos, rudos aún e imperfectos, fuesen oprimidos por la mole de tan sublime predicación. Les prohíbe, pues, anunciarlo Hijo de Dios, a fin de que lo anuncien después crucificado. (San Ambrosio de Milán. Catena Aurea)

Reflexión: ¿Por qué Cristo quería que los Apóstoles se callaran y esperaran el momento para proclamar que Él era el Hijo de Dios? Todo tiene su tiempo, un tiempo establecido por Dios con gran sabiduría. Muchas veces mostramos desesperación cuando algo que esperamos no llega. No nos damos cuenta de que Dios controla las mareas y los vientos. Nada sucede sin su aceptación.

But our Lord Jesus Christ was as at first unwilling to be preached, lest an uproar should arise; as it follows, And he straitly charged them, and commanded them to tell no man any thing. For many reasons He commands His disciples to be silent; to deceive the prince of this world, to reject boasting, to teach humility. Christ then would not boast, and cost you boast who are of ignoble birth? Likewise He did it to prevent rude and as yet imperfect disciples from being oppressed with the wonder of this awful announcement. They are then forbid to preach Him as the Son of God, that they might afterwards preach Him crucified. (Saint Ambrose of Milan. Catena Aurea)

Reflection: Why did Christ want the Apostles to shut up and wait for the moment to proclaim that He was the Son of God? Everything has its time, a time set by God with great wisdom. Many times we show despair when something we hope does not come. We do not realize that God controls the tides and winds. Nothing happens without Him acceptance.

Dios nos ofrece conocimiento - God offers us knowledge

Por tanto, Dios no nos dejó en la completa ignorancia, porque cada uno ha sembrado en sí, el conocimiento de que existe un Dios. La creación, por su cohesión y su dirección, proclama la magnificencia de la naturaleza divina (cf. Rm 1.20). A continuación, la Ley y los Profetas y su único Hijo, el Señor, "nuestro Dios y Salvador Jesucristo" (2P 1.1), han demostrado el conocimiento de Dios, de acuerdo a lo que podemos conseguir. Por eso todo lo que nos fue transmitido por la Ley y los Profetas, los Apóstoles y los Evangelistas, lo aceptamos, lo conocemos, aplicamos nuestra devoción y no buscamos más allá. (San Juan Damasceno. La Fe ortodoxa, I, 1)

Reflexión: Dios se muestra a quien abre su corazón a la Verdad. No es sencillo, porque desea que libremente nos acerquemos a Él y acojamos el don de la fe. Conocer nos permite superar la vacilante emotividad que nos suele confundir y controlar. Cristo el Logos, la Verdad, la Piedra Angular que sostiene nuestro ser y nos alimenta con su Gracia.

God does not leave us in total ignorance since each one of us possesses the knowledge (sown by him) that God exists. Creation itself, by its cohesiveness and direction, proclaims the splendor of the divine nature (Rm 1:20). Then the Law and the prophets and, afterwards, his only Son, the Lord, “our God and Savior Jesus Christ” (2Pt 1:1), have made known the knowledge of God according as we can understand it. That is why we receive and  understand and give ourselves to everything handed on to us by the Law and prophets, the apostles and evangelists. We fix our devotion on that and do not look beyond it. (Saint John Damascene. On the Orthodox Faith, I, 1)

Reflection: God shows himself to who opens his heart to the Truth. It is not easy because He wants that we approach Him and embrace the gift of faith, freely. Knowing allows us to overcome the faltering emotion that tends to confuse and control us. Christ is the Logos, the Truth, the Cornerstone that sustains our being and feeds us with His Grace.

Ser servidores de Cristo - Be servants of Christ

El Señor no quiso que sus discípulos poseyesen, ni llevasen cosa alguna de éstas. No porque no sean necesarias para el sostenimiento de la vida, sino que los enviaba así para demostrar que estas cosas debían serles suministradas por aquellos a quienes anunciasen el Evangelio. Y así seguros, no se cuidasen de poseer, ni de llevar lo necesario a esta vida, ni mucho ni poco. Por eso dijo, según San Marcos: "Sino un bastón" ( Mc 6,8), manifestando así que los fieles debían proveer a sus ministros de todo lo necesario, pero no de lo superfluo. Con el emblema de la vara significó esta potestad, cuando dijo: "Nada toméis, en el camino, sino un báculo tan sólo". (San Agustín, de cons. evang. 2, 30)

Reflexión: Cristo dijo a sus Apóstoles cómo debían de comportarse y vivir. Nadie confía en quien dice maravillosas palabras, pero después vive como los demás. Nadie recuerda a quienes hablan y hablan y nada hacen por alcanzar a Dios. Para seguir a Cristo debemos tomar la cruz y seguir cada paso del Señor.

The Lord did not wish the disciples to possess and carry with them these things, not that they were not necessary to the support of this life, but because He sent them thus to show that these things were due to them from those believers to whom they announced the Gospel, that so they might neither possess security, nor carry about with them the necessaries of this life, either great or little. He has therefore, according to Mark, excluded all except a staff, showing that the faithful owe every thing to their ministers who require no superfluities. But this permission of the staff He has mentioned by name, when He says, They should take nothing in the way, but a staff only. (Saint Augustine, de cons. evang. 2, 30)

Reflection: Christ told his Apostles how they should behave and live. No one trusts who says beautiful words but then lives like everyone else. No one remembers those who speak and speak and do nothing to reach God. To follow Christ, we must take the cross and support every step of the Lord.

¿Estamos unidos realmente a Cristo? - Are we really joined to Christ?

En sentido místico, el que busca a Cristo no debe estar fuera. Porque se dice: "Acercaos a El y seréis iluminados" ( Sal 33,6). Si están fuera, ni aun los mismos parientes son reconocidos; y acaso no son reconocidos para nuestro ejemplo. ¿Cómo, pues, seremos nosotros reconocidos por El, si estamos fuera? También se puede entender por parientes a los judíos, de quienes procedía Jesucristo según la carne, y que la Iglesia debe ser preferida a la sinagoga. (San Ambrosio de Milan. Catena Aurea)

Reflexión: Hoy en día somos incapaces de leer la Palabra de Dios en sentido místico. Estamos tan apegados al mundo, que interpretamos todo lo sagrado como cotidiano y humano. Sin duda, Cristo nos quiere hacer ver que podemos estar junto a Él si nos separamos de las apariencias y simulacros del mundo. Son hermanos e hijos de Cristo quienes lo ponen en el centro de su vida.

In a mystical sense he ought not to stand without who was seeking Christ. Hence also that saying, Come to him, and be enlightened. For if they stand without, not even parents themselves are acknowledged; and perhaps for our example they are not. How are we acknowledged by Him if we stand without? That meaning also is not unreasonable, because by the figure of parents He points to the Jews of whom Christ was born, and thought the Church to be preferred to the synagogue. (Saint Ambrose of Milan. Catena Aurea)

Reflection: Today, we are unable to read the Word of God in a mystical sense. We are so attached to the world that we interpret everything sacred as everyday and human. Without a doubt, Christ wants us to see that we can be with Him if we separate ourselves from the appearances and drills of the world. They are brothers and sons of Christ who put him at the center of his life.

Cristo es LUZ - Christ is LIGHT

Como se puede ver, Cristo se da a sí mismo el nombre de lámpara. Siendo Dios por naturaleza, se ha hecho carne según el plan de salvación, una carne que contiene una luz, tal como si se tratara de un jarrón… David lo pensaba así cuando dijo : «Lámpara es tu palabra para mis pasos, luz en mi sendero» (sl 118, 105) [...]  El candelero es la Iglesia, porque el Verbo de Dios brilla a través de su predicación. Es así como los rayos de su verdad pueden iluminar al mundo entero… Pero con una condición: no esconderla bajo la letra de la Ley. Cualquiera que se ate sólo a la letra de la Escritura, vive según la carne; mete su lámpara bajo el celemín. Por el contrario, puesta sobre el candelero, la Iglesia, ilumina a todos los hombres. (San Máximo el Confesor. Pregunta 63 para Thalasio; PG 90, 667s)

Reflexión. Cristo es la Luz, el Logos, La Puerta, La Piedra Angular. El mensaje por el que Él  nos llama al Reino de Dios es simple: Dios se encarnado y nos ha dicho que todo y todos tienen sentido en Él. Lo complicado no es leer o entender el mensaje. Lo complicado es arrodillarse y abrir el corazón a la Gracia de Dios. He aquí un humilde servidor de Cristo. Sea en mi según Tu voluntad. Nada soy sin ti mi Señor.

As we have seen, Christ calls himself a lamp. God by nature, he became flesh according to the plan of salvation: a light held within the flesh as if in a vase... This is what David was thinking when he said: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path” (Ps 119[118]:105). [...] The lampstand is holy Church because the Word of God shines out through her preaching. This is how the beams of its truth can enlighten the whole world... On one condition, however: so long as it is not hidden under the letter of the Law. Anyone who clings to Scripture according to the letter only is living according to the flesh; he is placing the lamp under a bushel basket. But when, to the contrary, the Church is set on the lampstand, it enlightens everyone. (Saint Maximus the Confessor. Question 63 to Thalassius ; PG 90, 667f.)

Reflection. Christ is the Light, the Logos, The Door, The Cornerstone. The message with which He calls us to the Kingdom of God is simple: : God is incarnate and has told us that everything and everyone makes sense in Him. The complicated thing is not to read or understand the message. The complicated thing is to kneel and open the heart to the Grace of God. Here is a humble servant of Christ. Be in me according to Your will. I am nothing without you, my Lord.
