Había enseñado a petición de sus apóstoles cómo conviene orar. Pero podía suceder que los que recibían esta saludable enseñanza hiciesen sus preces, según la forma prescrita, mas con negligencia y descuido; y después, si no eran oídos a la primera o la segunda oración, dejasen de orar. A fin, pues, de que tal cosa no nos suceda, nos manifiesta en una parábola que la pusilanimidad es perjudicial en las oraciones, siendo muy conveniente esperar con paciencia en ellas. Por esto dice: "Les dijo también: Si alguno de vosotros tuviere un amigo".

Reflexión: Orar es un don, un regalo de Dios. Cuando oramos abrimos la puerta a Dios y Él espera con paciencia que le dejemos entrar. Si le dejamos entrar, la Paz iluminará nuestro corazón. La esperanza llenará nuestra nuestra mente y la caridad llenará nuestras manos. Orar es don. Pidamos este don con esperanza y confianza.

The Savior had before taught, in answer to the request of His apostles, how men ought to pray. But it might happen that those who had received this wholesome teaching, poured forth their prayers indeed according to the form given to them, but carelessly and languidly, and then when they were not heard in the first or second prayer, left off praying. That this then might not be our case, he shows by means of a parable, that cowardice in our prayers is hurtful, but it is of great advantage to have patience in them. Hence it is said, And he says to them, Which of you shall have a friend.

Reflection: Praying is a gift, a gift from God. When we pray, we open the door to God, and He waits patiently for us to let him in. If we let him in, Peace will illuminate our hearts. Hope will fill our minds, and charity will fill our hands. Pray is a gift. Let us ask for this gift with hope and confidence.
