El hombre, dotado de razón, realmente sólo tiene un gran interés : obedecer y agradar al Dios del Universo y formar su alma con la única preocupación de serle agradable. Agradeciéndole por la realidad y la fuerza de su Providencia con la que dirige todas las cosas, no importa lo que suceda, durante la vida. Sería fuera de lugar no agradecer por la salud del cuerpo a los médicos, porque nos prescriben remedios amargos y desagradables. Pero rechazaríamos de Dios la gratitud por cosas que nos parecen penosas. Como si no supiéramos que todo llega cuando debe llegar y es a nuestro beneficio, por los cuidados de la Providencia. Ya que el conocimiento de Dios y la fe en él, son la salvación y la perfección del alma.

Reflexión: Los sabios soberbios del mundo son muy diferentes a los Sabios de Oriente que vinieron a adorar a Cristo en Belén. Los sabios soberbios no son capaces de ver a Dios en todo lo que les rodea. Buscan ser los primeros y ser adorados por sus conocimientos. Los Sabios de Oriente dejaron que el Espíritu Santo les indicara el lugar donde nacería el Salvador. No buscaban ser los primeros, sino adorar a Dios hecho carne. Como dice San Antonio el Grande, hasta lo que es penoso y nos hace sufrir tiene algo que enseñarnos. También es un medios para que entendamos que la soberbia no nos llevará muy lejos.

The truly intelligent person pursues one sole objective: to obey and conform to the God of all. Reflection: The wise scholars of the world are very different from the Wise Men of the East who came to worship Christ in Bethlehem. The wise scholars are not able to see God in everything around them. They seek to be first and to be adored for their knowledge. The Wise Men of the East let the Holy Spirit indicate to them the place where the Savior would be born. They did not seek to be first, but to worship God made flesh. As Saint Antonius, the Great says, even what is painful and makes us suffer has something to teach us. It is also a means for us to understand that pride will not take us far.
