A tal extremo, oh Cristo, mi Dios, has descendido. (San Juan Damasceno. De la declaración de la fe, cap. I; PG 95, 417- 419)
--------------------------------

You nursed me with the spiritual milk of your divine utterances. You kept me alive with the solid food of the body of Jesus Christ, your only begotten Son and our God, and you let me drink from the chalice of his life-giving blood, poured out to save the whole world. You loved us, O Lord, and gave up your only-begotten Son for our redemption. And he undertook the task willingly and did not shrink away from it. (...) Thus you humbled yourself, Christ my God, so that you might carry me, your stray sheep, on your shoulders. You let me graze in green pastures, refreshing me with the waters of orthodox teaching at the hands of your shepherds. You pastured those shepherds, and now they in turn tend your chosen and special flock. (Saint John Damascene. The Testimony of faith, 1; PG 95, 417-419)
Reflection: Christ attends to the lost sheep that needs your help. He also waits at a distance for the sheep that believes itself to be self-sufficient and does not believe it needs God. He hopes his heart is cleansed of pride and pride. Wait for the sheep to kneel and pray to God. God awaits us all, but we are not always able to realize.

Quien cree, no teme - Who believes, does not fears

--------------------------

But they had rather fear the miracles of divine working than believe them. As it follows, And they were filled with fear. But if they had believed they had not surely feared, but loved, for perfect love casts out fear. But this was no careless or trifling cure of the paralytic, since our Lord is said to have prayed first, not for the petition's sake, but for an example. (Catena Aurea. Lk 5, 17-26)
Reflection: Whoever loves God does not fear the hand that he tends to offer mercy. Who beliefs in God does not expect revenge from Him. Whoever approaches God with humility and trust, finds the Light that guides him on the path of holiness. Whoever welcomes the Light in his heart becomes a symbol of Christ among human beings.

Amar y dejarse amar - Love and let love

-----------------------

Each of us possesses the manifest energy of the Spirit in proportion to the faith that is in him (cf. Rom 12.6). In this way, each one is the intendant of his grace. Anyone who is well disposed can never wish for something from those who are honored by grace since the disposition to receive the goods of God rests upon him. What makes the goods of God remain in us is the measure of each one's faith. Since it is to the extent that we believe that we are given enthusiasm in action. He who acts reveals the measure of his faith in proportion to the work: he receives the measure of grace according to what he has believed.

Saint Maximus the Confessor. Centuria on theology V, 34-35, 42, 45.
Reflection: Faith, hope, and charity. Three colors that make up the Light of God in us. Without faith, nothing makes sense. Without hope, we die inwardly. Without charity, the gifts God has given us weigh on us because we are not able to donate them to others. If we lock ourselves in, we die asphyxiated by our limitations. If we do not accept the gifts of our neighbors, we will wither what we are. As we offer ourselves and receive others, we begin to live in the Grace of God.

San Gregorio Magno, Moralia, 20, 9

-------------------------

By this sentence it is given to us to learn, that among men charity and humility, and not mighty works, are to be esteemed. Whence also now the Holy Church, if there be any miracles of heretics, despises them, because she knows that they have not the mark of holiness. And the proof of holiness is not to work miracles, but to love our neighbour as ourselves, to think truly of God, and of our neighbour better than of ourselves.

Saint Gregory the Great, Moralia, 20, 9

Reflection: Reflection: Who will be saved? For God, appearances, marketing, posturing networks, or being considered an idol have no value. Humility weighs like gold, while pride is like being inflated with nothing. Loving others as yourself is very important, but we can only love ourselves well if we love God completely.

Más que tocar el vestido de Cristo - More than touching the dress of Christ

San Juan Crisóstomo, homiliae in Matthaeum, hom. 52,3

------------------------------------------

These shewed their faith in two points especially, in that they went up the mountain, and in that they believed that they had need of nothing beyond but to cast themselves at Jesus' feet; for they do not now touch the hem even of His garment, but have attained to a loftier faith; "And cast them down at Jesus' feet." The woman's daughter He healed with great slackness, that He might shew her virtue; but to these He administers healing immediately, not because they were better than that woman, ...

Saint John Chrysostom, In Matthew, hom. 52,3

Reflection: Reflection: Humility heals our soul, and if it is God's Will, it will also not cure the life we live in this world. Being healed by Christ requires acceptance and trust. It is not like taking medicine or being operated. The healing of Christ is more profound and more permanent.

Intentemos confiar en Dios - Let's try to trust God

---------------------------------

The truly intelligent person pursues one sole objective: to obey and conform to the God of all. With this single aim in view he disciplines his soul, and whatever he may encounter in the course of life, he gives thanks to God for the compass and depth of providential ordering of all things. For it is absurd to be grateful to doctors who give us bitter and unpleasant medicines to cure our bodies, and yet to be ungrateful to God for what appears to be harsh, not grasping that all we encounter is for our benefit in accordance with His providence. For knowledge of God and faith in Him is the salvation and perfection of the soul.

Antony the Great. Exhortations, nos. 2-3, 132-133, 137, 170
Reflection: The wise scholars of the world are very different from the Wise Men of the East who came to worship Christ in Bethlehem. The wise scholars are not able to see God in everything around them. They seek to be first and to be adored for their knowledge. The Wise Men of the East let the Holy Spirit indicate to them the place where the Savior would be born. They did not seek to be first, but to worship God made flesh. As Saint Antonius, the Great says, even what is painful and makes us suffer has something to teach us. It is also a means for us to understand that pride will not take us far.

Una Palabra de Cristo es suficiente para sanarnos - A Word of Christ is enough to heal us

San Hilario, homiliae in Matthaeum, 7

-----------------------------

Spiritually interpreted, the Gentiles are the sick in this world, and afflicted with the diseases of sin, all their limbs being altogether unnerved, and unfit for their duties of standing and walking. The sacrament of their salvation is fulfilled in this centurion's servant, of whom it is sufficiently declared that he was the head of the Gentiles that should believe. What sort of head this is, the song of Moses in Deuteronomy teaches, "He set the bounds of the people according to the number of the Angels." (Dt 32,8)

Saint Hilary, homiliae in Matthaeum, 7

Reflection: Sincerity, humility, and hope. These three virtues were what prompted the Centurion to ask for mercy from Christ. He begged for mercy for a servant, whom he appreciated, and who was ill. Can we take the Centurion as an example and pray for each other? Praying for each other is a gift that we do not value or understand at all.
