Ya que la noche se acaba - Since the night is over

Ya que la noche se acaba y el día aparece, hagamos las obras del día; dejemos las obras de las tinieblas. Así como hacemos en esta vida: cuando vemos que la noche deja paso a la aurora y que empieza el canto la golondrina, nos despertamos los unos a otros, aunque todavía sea de noche... apresurándonos en las tareas del día; nos vestimos dejando atrás el sueño, para que el sol nos encuentre preparados. Lo que hicimos entonces, hagamoslo ahora: sacudamos la modorra, arranquemos los sueños de la vida presente, salgamos de nuestro sueño profundo y revistámonos con el traje de la virtud. Esto es lo que el apóstol nos dice claramente: " Rechacemos las obras de las tinieblas y revistámonos con las armas de la luz" (v. 12).

Reflexión: No sabemos en día o la hora en la que el Señor no llamará. Por ello siempre debemos estar atentos y preparados. Nada puede acontecer sin que Dios lo permita. Cuando seamos llamados seremos juzgados con misericordia y justicia infinitas. Dios nos señalará todas la veces que hemos rechazado su mano y hemos actuado por intereses propios. Intentemos vivir con fidelidad y docilidad a Dios.

Since night is disappearing and day is coming to view, let us carry out the works of day and leave behind the works of darkness. This is what we do in the course of life: when we see night giving way to dawn and hear the swallows singing, then we rouse one another even though it is still dark... We hurry to our daily tasks; we get dressed after being snatched from sleep so that the sun will find us ready. What we do then, let us do now. Let us shake off our dreams, rouse ourselves from thoughts of this present life, leave our heavy slumber and put on the garment of virtue. This is what the apostle clearly says to us: "Cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light" (v.12).

Reflection: We do not know what day or time the Lord will not call. Therefore we must always be attentive and prepared. Nothing can happen without God, allowing it. We will be judged with infinite mercy and justice. God will point out to us all the times that we have rejected his hand and acted on our interests. Let's try to live with faithfulness and docility to God.
