Hijo de Dios, ten compasión de mi - Son of God, have mercy on me

... es precisamente la humanidad la que queda representada por este ciego sentado al borde del camino y mendigando, porque la Verdad dice de ella misma: «Yo soy el camino» (Jn 14,6). El que no conoce el resplandor de la luz eterna, ciertamente es ciego, pero si comienza a creer en el Redentor, entonces «está sentado al borde del camino». Si creyendo en Él, descuida de pedir el don de la luz eterna, si rechaza pedírselo, permanece al borde del camino; y no se cree necesitado de pedir... Que todo el que reconoce que las tinieblas hacen de él un ciego, que todo el que comprende que le falta la luz eterna, clame del fondo de su corazón, con todo su espíritu: «Jesús, hijo de David, ten compasión de mí»

Reflexión: ¿Qué pedimos a Dios cada día? No siempre somos capaces de articular nuestros anhelos más profundos hacia Dios. Pensemos en la Virgen María que oró al contestar al Ángel: "Hágase en mi según tu palabra". Si los cristianos tenemos un desafío diario, ese desafío es arrodillarnos ante Cristo, ofrecerle nuestras debilidades y pedirle la Gracia de cumplir Su Voluntad con docilidad.

The humanity represented by this blind man is rightly described as sitting at the wayside and as begging. Truth himself told us: “I am the way” (Jn 14:6). Anyone ignorant of the brightness of eternal light is blind. If he already believes in his Redeemer he is “sitting at the wayside”. If he already believes but only pretends to ask for eternal light, if he refrains from praying, he is indeed a blind man sitting at the wayside... If anyone recognizes the darkness of his blindness, if anyone understands that the light of truth is wanting to him, let him cry from the bottom of his heart, let him also cry with his whole mind, let him say: “Jesus, son of David, have pity on me!”

Reflection: What do we ask of God every day? We are not always able to articulate our most profound longings towards God. Think of the Virgin Mary, who prayed to answer the Angel: "let it be done to me according to your word". If we Christians have a daily challenge, that challenge is to kneel before Christ, offer him our weaknesses and ask for the Grace to fulfill His Will with docility.
