¿Elegir la mejor parte o cada cosa en su momento? - Choose the right part or each thing at the right time?

En sentido místico, Marta, recibiendo al Señor en su casa, representa la Iglesia, que ahora lo recibe en su corazón. María, su hermana, que estaba sentada junto a los pies del Salvador y oía su palabra, representa la misma Iglesia, pero en la vida futura, en la que, cesando de todo trabajo y ministerio de caridad, sólo goza de la sabiduría. En cuanto a que Marta se queja de su hermana porque no le ayuda, se da ocasión a la sentencia del Señor, con la que muestra que esta Iglesia se inquieta y turba por muchas cosas, cuando sola una cosa es necesaria, a la cual llega por los méritos de este ministerio. Dice que María "eligió la mejor parte", porque por ésta se va a aquélla que no se quita jamás. (San Agustín, De quaest. Evang. 2, 30)

Reflexión: ¿Atender lo humano o dejarse llenar por lo divino? Muchas veces nos preguntamos qué hacer, como si atender lo humano nos impidiera llenarnos de Dios. Más bien todo lo contrario. Atendiendo lo humano podemos llenarnos de Dios y al llenarnos de Dios, atender lo humano. Cuando optamos, desperdiciamos una parte para alcanzar la otra. Rechazando la vocación, limitamos lo que Él nos ha donado.

Now mystically, by Martha's receiving our Lord into her house is represented the Church which now receives the Lord into her heart. Mary her sister, who sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word, signifies the same Church, but in a future life, where ceasing from labor, and the ministering to her wants, she shall delight in Wisdom alone. But by her complaining that her sister did not help her, occasion is given for that sentence of our Lord, in which he shows that Church to be anxious and troubled about much service, when there is but one thing needful, which is yet attained through the merits of her service; but He says that Mary has chosen the good part, for through the one the other is reached, which shall not be taken away. (Saint Augustine, De quaest. Evang. 2, 30) 

Reflection: Attending to the human or being filled by the divine? Many times we ask ourselves what to do as if attending to the human would prevent us from filling ourselves with God. Rather the complete opposite. Attending to the human, we can fill ourselves with God, and by filling ourselves with God, attend to the human. When we choose, we waste one part to reach the other. By rejecting the vocation, we limit what He has given us.
