El Señor no mandó a los apóstoles que tuvieran la edad de los niños, sino que tuvieran su inocencia y que obtuvieran por sus esfuerzos lo que aquellos poseían por sus años, de manera que fueran niños en la malicia, pero no en la sabiduría (entendimiento) ( 1Cor 14). Reflexión: Cristo nos invita a ser como niños, pero tenemos que entender lo que quiere decir. San Jerónimo lo explica claramente: la inocencia y la confianza son el mejor calzado para seguir los pasos de Cristo. Además, tenemos que llevar con nosotros el entendimiento donado por el Espíritu. No olvidemos que tenemos que "ser mansos como palomas y astutos como serpientes" (Mt 10, 16)

He does not enjoin on the Apostles the age, but the innocence of infants, which they have by virtue of their years, but to which these might attain by striving; that they should be children in malice, not in wisdom (understanding) ( 1Cor 14). (Saint Jerome. Catena Aurea Mt 18,1-6)
Reflection: Christ invites us to be like children, but we have to understand what it means. St. Jerome explains it clearly: innocence and trust are the best footwear to follow in the footsteps of Christ. Also, we have to carry with us the understanding donated by the Spirit. Let us not forget that we have to "be meek as doves and cunning as snakes" (Mt 10, 16)
