No temer la mordedura de la serpiente - Do not fear the snake bite

El Señor nos quiere desprender de todo lo terreno; por esto mandó a Moisés que se descalzase, cuando había de enviarle a libertar a su pueblo ( Ex 3). Mas si alguno desea saber por qué se mandó a los israelitas que comiesen el cordero de pie y con el calzado puesto, al salir de Egipto ( Ex 12), mientras que a los apóstoles se les manda ir a predicar el Evangelio sin calzado, ha de considerar que el que está en Egipto debe temer todavía la mordedura de la serpiente, porque el veneno abunda en Egipto; y el que celebra la Pascua figurativa puede ser herido, mientras que el ministro de la verdad no teme los venenos. (San Ambrosio de Milán. Catena Aurea Lucas 10, 3-4)

Reflexión: Los Apóstoles fueron prevenidos de los peligros, pero no para que temieran. Los Apóstoles debían conocer los peligros que la Evangelización les traería.  Pero fueron enviados sin calzado. San Ambrosio señala que no deben temer la picadura de la serpiente (el maligno). ¿Por qué? Porque sabían que Dios estaba con ellos y que la herida sería sanada. ¿Confiamos nosotros en Dios? ¿nos creemos desatendidos por la Gracia de Dios? ¿Por qué perdemos tan fácilmente la confianza y la paz de corazón. Nos falta oración y paz de corazón.

Our Lord also would have nothing human in us. For Moses is bid to loose off the human and earthly shoe when he was sent to deliver the people. But if any one is perplexed why in Egypt we are ordered to eat the lamb with shoes on, but the Apostles are appointed to preach the Gospel without shoes: he must consider, that one in Egypt ought still to beware of the serpent’s bite, for there were many poisonous creatures in Egypt. And he who celebrates the Passover in figure may be exposed to the wound, but the minister of truth fears no poison. (Saint Ambrose of Milan. Catena Aurea Lucas 10, 3-4)

Reflection: The Apostles were prevented from danger, but not so that they feared. The Apostles were to know the hazards that Evangelization would bring them. But they were sent without shoes. Saint Ambrose points out that they should not fear the snake's bite (the evil one). Why? Because they knew that God was with them and that the wound would be healed. Do we trust God? Do we think we are unattended by the Grace of God? Why do we lose so easily trust and peace of heart? We lack prayer and peace of heart.
